Breathing Life

And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

Romans 8:10&11

Right there tucked into that word life are so many meanings. I looked up the original Greek word here and it is zoopoieo and it literally means to give life, revitalize, infuse with life. The KJV version uses the word quicken which means to stimulate or restore life. God is willing to give us this life by the same Spirit that He raised Jesus from the dead with.

There are so many things that God is willing to breathe life into. We just need to ask in belief and He will give. If you're in a new season that you aren't sure you even want, or an old season you feel will never end and you're confused about how to move forward. Even if you just lack energy for daily life, ask God to infuse you. Ask Him to revitalize you and regenerate your purpose. If you are breathing, He isn't done with you. He can breathe new life into old attitudes and habits.

Check out how the Message phrases this:

It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you (and he does, as surely as he did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!

(Verses 10&11)

I want God to live and breathe in me. I want to be delivered from that dead life. That life that says we have to make things happen, everything is up to me. God moves into our lives when we invite him. He will live and breathe in you and in me. He brings the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and breathes life in us. He is the God of not just creation, but recreation. He makes things new all the time. He loves to start in our hearts.

Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God!

Romans 8:5 MSG

I am tired of trying to measure myself. I am tired trying and falling short. I want to trust god to move in me. I want that life.

Fair warning, sometimes in my heart where God wants to bring new life, He first has to do a little pruning so that new growth can thrive. I have to stop thinking that I can do it on my own and give up my self.

Open your heart to Him, He wants to get out the death to make way for life. Sometimes I hesitate because I don't want to let go of the familiar, but I want to trust Him more. I want to open myself up to the pruning. I don't want anything dead hanging around.

Father, we don't want to do it on our own, we try and we can't. Help us be comforable admitting that and lean into the dependence You offer. Beathe in us. Infuse us with energy and purpose. Revitalize the things that have grown stagnant or died in us. Thank You that You recreate. Let today be a fresh start. Help us bravely let go and let You in.
