I’ve heard it said that you should talk to God about your children more than you talk to your children about God. This is not permission to shy away from conversations with your kids, it’s more of a challenge to pray more before you talk to your kids, after you talk to your kids, and all the times in the middle. It’s a reminder that God knows your children better than you and seeking Him leads to guidance for how to navigate them. And in light of that goal, I have some prayers based on ideas from scripture for you to do just that.

As much as I pray for my kids on the daily,

I amp it up at the beginning of every school year. My kids attend public school, don’t worry this is not about to turn into any kind of debate about home school, private school, or any other options. I don’t care where you send your kids. That is a decision for you and God. I do send my kids to public school where I believe we, as a family, have been called to be a light. So, I amp up the prayer when I feel like I am about to throw them out to send them out into the world. Prayer is the weapon I’ve got, and I am bound and determined to use it.

If you would like to glean form my Bible verse deep dive and pray these same prayers for your kids, you are in luck! I created prayer cards for you to utilize. You can download them right here in this post.

This specific prayer from Ephesians 1 verses 16-18 is on repeat so much that I have it memorized. It has been my go-to daily prayer this summer:

May God give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him

having the eyes of your heart enlightened that you may know the hope of your calling,

the riches of your inheritance, and the power available for us who believe.

Praying for my children is also so important because it helps protect my heart from my children becoming an idol. When I am anxious for some aspect of my child’s life, and I think about that more than I think about who God is and trust His provision, then it is elevated in my heart to a place it shouldn’t have. Prayer itself is a surrender and a declaration of trusting God.
