David wrote these words from Psalm 59 while assassins sent by Saul were outside his home. While David could have been biting his nails and watching from the window, he chose instead to pray with clear purpose.

"O my Strength, I will watch for you,

for you, O God, are my fortress.

My God in his steadfast love will meet me;

God will let me look in triumph on my enemies (9&10)."

Saul sent assassins; David wrote praise.

If those aren't opposite strategies, Im not sure what is. While men were watching his house to kill him, David told God, "I will watch for you". He confidently boasted that, "My God in his steadfast love will meet me". I love his gusto!

Whatever you may feel is closing in on you, whatever is surrounding you today, stop looking for it and look for God. Stop focusing on what's in front of you and focus on Who is with you.

I have felt pursued by our enemy. I have felt like he was right behind me breathing down my neck, but the truth is that God has already beat him. There will be a day when we look in triumph on his downfall. I don't have to fight like someone who isn't sure of the outcome.

In Matthew 19:26 Jesus reminds us that "with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." I tend to put my problems in a human box when I need to continually remind myself that my options aren't the normal human variety. There is so much more at my disposal. I continually fight my battles like they are up to me when I simply need to remember that they aren't.

I need this reminder today. I hope that if you did too, you remember that praise is one of the best weapons in our arsenal.

What strategy are you using today? Are you trying to gain control over your circumstances, or are you watching for the One who is actually in control?

Are you looking at your circumstances with God or without God?

I am choosing to watch for God in anticipation that He is going to show up.

God, I have a real enemy watching me. Help me take my gaze away from him and place it on You. I will watch for You today. Thank You that You will meet me in all the places that I need You. Teach me to praise You before I even get the answer, knowing that praise changes my focus and wins the battle. In Jesus name, Amen.
