What Are You Planting?

So, I have zinnia springing up in my yard. If you've been to my house and seen how much I love flowers, this will sound perfectly normal, and it would be, except I didn't plant them this year. Caleb and I traditionally plant zinnia seeds every year, just the two of us. but this year, we didn't quite get it done. We magically still have them popping up in the most unlikely places. Like the sidewalk by the front stairs, not in the flowerbed, just in right up our ot the grass. There are some sprinkled through the place we usually plant them and then some in over by the roses where we have never planted them.

I think God is trying to remind me of something. He knows that often times I need a visual. He led me to a passage in 2 Corinthians a couple years ago, and I sat long in the words and prayed through them, meditated on them and then watched God accomplish them.

Here's the passage from chapter 9 verses 8,10 &11:

"God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at at all times, you may abound in every good work.

He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God."

God is reminding my heart right when I need it that He is in charge of growth. My obedience is planting the seeds. When and if they come up is up to Him. That mystery of growth is beyond my capabilities.

These seeds that must have blown into the soil from zinnia we planted in the past. They are sprouting this year because God decided it's their time. I believe that they really are there for my heart. God is a romantic like that. He is reminding me, just when I need it, that growth is really up to Him. He is reminding me that He sees my obedience, and He has got all the timing worked out.

What are you planting that maybe hasn't grown yet? Can you keep planting and believe God will make it grow at the right time?

Maybe the question for your heart is: Are you planting?

Is there anything you are doing in obedience just because God said to do it?

Let me remind you that that verse says God is able to make grace abound to you, and give all the things at all the times. He is able,He will supply... have you asked Him where to plant? Are you doing anything with your gifts? Are you faithfully spreading the seeds?

Let's don't forget that the point of all this sowing is to produce thanksgiving to God. It isn't about me or about you. He initiates all the growth, when we obey and plant we get to watch the miracle. Take a minute to remember and thank God for something He grew out of what you planted.

Father, thank You that You love us so much that You let us participate in Your plans. Thank you that You never ask us to do anything that you don't supply and multiply. Give us courage to walk in obedience even when we don't see what's happening underground.

In Jesus name, Amen.
